Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, 10178 Berlin, Berlin

A rare live concert by Oscar-winning musician and composer Daniel Blumberg, who works at the interface of experimental music, improvisation and film music. With his four solo albums released by Mute — Minus (2018), Liv (2019), On&On (2020) and GUT (2023) — he has developed a musical practice in which songwriting, improvisation and abstraction are in constant exchange with each other. As a collaborator with avant-garde musicians such as Keiji Haino, Maggie Nichols, Elvin Brandhi and Joel Grip (to name just a few), he creates music that leaves room for uncertainty and allows sounds to resist unequivocal dissolution.

About the event

As a film composer, he is particularly known for his music for Brady Corbet's The Brutalist (2025), which combines raw emotional depth and epic dimensions with radical sonic experiments. His film music for Gianfranco Rosi's Sotto le Nuvole (Pompei: Below the Clouds, 2025) takes a different path: a subliminal, unsettling sound world of woodwind resonances, distorted tones and Foley textures that unfolds parallel to the cinematic portrait of Naples — a city whose history is shaped by traces of its own buried past. Blumberg bends and decomposes the sounds of acoustic instruments until they float somewhere between the human and the mechanical, the familiar and the unknown.

In addition to his musical work, Blumberg is also active as a visual artist. His silver pencil drawings have been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, KW Berlin, Deichtorhallen Hamburg and Balice Hertling in Paris. His work in the fields of music, film and visual arts is united by an interest in what results when familiar forms are changed beyond recognition.

Gibrana Cervantes is a Mexican violinist and composer who lives in Berlin. Her work ranges between experimental music and contemporary performance. She sees the violin as an extended instrument that moves between melody, fragility, distortion and noise. Through amplification, effects and a physical approach to the instrument, she develops performances in which repetition, transformation and the unpredictable play a central role.

Her solo album verdad y error (AWOS, 2026) brings together musical ideas that have emerged over a longer period of time in live performances and studio recordings. Layered and edited violins range between intimate melodies and dense textures. It is about the search for peace in the midst of uncertainty and the changing nature of memory.

Cervantes composes and performs for Florentina Holzinger, including SANCTA, A Year Without Summer and SEA WORLD VENICE, which will be presented at the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2026. She also works on Holzinger's projects as a co-composer and co-musical director. She is a member of the experimental ensemble Amor Müre, together with Mabe Fratti, Concepción Huerta and Camille Mandoki. In this performance, Cervantes performs together with Gerardo Salas.
