Danton (Gérard Depardieu) and Robespierre (Wojciech Pszoniak) were close friends and fought together in the French Revolution, but by 1793 Robespierre was a French ruler, determined to wipe out opposition with a series of mass executions that became known as the Reign of Terror. Danton, well known as a spokesman for the people, had been living in relative solitude in the French countryside, but he returned to Paris to challenge Robespierre's violent rule and call for the people to demand their rights.
Political Film Club is a regular film series in Amondo cinema, which combines politically conscious cinema with experts' introductions and politically-spirited discussions following the screenings. It is a space where an energetic passion for political topics and cinema can find its expression. The films include less popular works of masters such as Kubrick, Godard, Altman and Wajda. (If there is a need, the discussions can be moderated bilingually and/or in english)
The project has been made possible thanks to the financial support of the Polish Film Institute.
The screening will take place as part of the POLITICAL FILM CLUB.
Danton (Gérard Depardieu) and Robespierre (Wojciech Pszoniak) were close friends and fought side by side during the French Revolution, but around 1793 Robespierre ruled France and fiercely eliminated opposition with a series of mass executions that history called the “Reign of Terror.” Danton, known for his reputation as a representative of the people despite living in the relative seclusion of the French countryside, returns to Paris to challenge Robespierre's despotic rule and appeal to the people to demand their rights.
The Political Film Club is a regularly held series of film screenings at the Amondo cinema, which combines politically aware cinema together with speeches by speakers and discussions in a political and informative spirit after the screenings. It is a space where vigor and passion for both political topics and cinema can find their outlet. Among the films there are less popular positions of such masters as Kubrick, Godard, Altman or Wajda.
The project is possible thanks to co-financing from the Polish Film Institute.
