Most cross-genre artists who bridge Indian classical and Western music tend to move outward from Indian classical roots. Sandeep Narayan went in the other direction. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he relocated to Chennai to train intensively in Carnatic vocal music and only then began exploring how that tradition connects with hip-hop, R&B and global sounds.
In this intimate talk, he reflects on that pivotal decision and his unique path, the discipline of a traditional guru-shishya training that shaped his musicianship and how a deep classical foundation opened up creative pathways.
