Anupama Bhagwat, the defining sitar maestra of her generation, opens with Satyajit Talwalkar, the tabla's torchbearer since the passing of Ustad Zakir Hussain. Ninety minutes of raga, built live in front of you, from a single note to a blazing climax.
Then the bamboo flute. Two-time GRAMMY winner Rakesh Chaurasia, heir to the bansuri of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, plays in duet with his son Ritik, making his UK debut. Father and son, one lineage, improvising together, with Talwalkar driving every turn.
Nothing here is written down. Every phrase is invented in the moment to stir a particular emotion: longing, devotion, joy.
