David Eugene Edwards, with his work with 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand, has marked himself out as one of the most influential voices in contemporary American music. Discover him at the Flea on November 24 with a fresh album, 'Mercurial Silence' in his luggage.
David Eugene Edwards is one of the most influential and uncompromising voices in contemporary American music. With roots in Denver's underground music scene and the band 16 Horsepower, Edwards created the so-called “Denver sound” in the 1990s, which also resonated with Europe — an intense fusion of gothic americana, folk tradition and spiritual fervor that particularly attracted devoted audiences in France, Belgium, Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Germany. His later work with Wovenhand further explored this sound and inspired artists within the post-punk, neofolk, metal, and experimental music scenes, highlighting his visionary approach as a crucial influence.
With 'Mercurial Silence', his recently released and second solo album, Edwards enters a new chapter while continuing the thematic and sonic explorations that have made him a singular figure in alternative. His live performances remain magnetic and ritualistic -- marked by age-old musical traditions, spiritual intensity and a raw emotional power that transcends genres. Edwards stands not only as a pioneering American songwriter, but also as a cultural bridge-builder, shaping the dialogue between folk tradition, spiritual music and contemporary experimental sound. Discover a unicorn at the Flea on November 24th.
