1996 saw the release of The Ugly Ducklinger, a landmark compilation that brought together some of the most important names from the Danish hip-hop underground and became a historic moment for the culture at home. Now the publication turns 30 years old, and it marks the Amargeton! with a special anniversary interview.
The evening's host is Peter PTA Trier Aagaard, who together with Tanja Schlander, Kølig Kaj and Konen as well as several of the compilation's other contributors (several names are published continuously) delves into the history behind The Ugly Ducklings, its legendary status and its significance for Danish hip hop culture. Together they look back at a time when the underground was growing strong and where enthusiasm, networking and uncompromising love for culture helped shape Danish hip hop.
How did the album come about? What were the ambitions and challenges of the project? And what significance did The Ugly Ducklings have had on the generations of Danish hip hop artists that followed? It will be a unique opportunity to hear the stories directly from some of the people who helped create one of the most important chapters in Danish hip hop history.
