Dutch artrock group De Staat is back with a self-titled album and a brand new live show! Throughout their 25-year career, in addition to their significant presence on the European music scene, the band has opened for names such as The Rolling Stones, Muse and Biffy Clyro, as well as visited a number of Europe's biggest festivals, and now you can experience the band's next chapter live at the Flea on 31 March 2027!

De Staat has built a reputation as one of Europe's most innovative and uncompromising live bands. The band has consistently moved the boundaries of what a rock band can be. From the hammering battle cries to razor-sharp community commentary, De Staat has over many years explored themes such as demagoguery and mass manipulation.

De Staat has played at — and in some cases headlined at — major festivals such as SXSW, Glastonbury, Lowlands, Sziget, Boomtown, Rock for People, Pukkelpop, Rock Werchter and Deichbrand. The band has also toured with names such as The Rolling Stones, Muse and Biffy Clyro. Their music, which spans industrial grooves, heavy guitar riffs, experimental electronic sounds and a strong pop feel, has been used in international promotions and computer games. The band has received Edison Awards, 3FM Awards, numerous music video awards, a Bernays Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as international acclaim from critics.

After two years of silence, De Staat returns with a long-awaited, self-titled album, an art installation and a live show entitled 'De Staat Becomes De Staat'. The project marks nearly 25 years in which the band has moved the boundaries of artrock.

'De Staat Becomes De Staat' is created in collaboration with the director Floor Houwink Ten Cate (One Man Show, Sea Of Silence), the audiovisual contemporary artist Boris Acket (Joep Beving, Peace Again..), the lighting designer Freek Ros (Wende, Altın Gün), the visual artist Tarik Barri (Thom Yorke, Nicolas Jaar), the sound designer Reinier Rietveld (Craigie Horsfield) and the dance collective 155 (Controle, Johnny). The show premiered at the Down The Rabbit Hole Festival and is followed by two performances in the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam. The band will go on tour in Europe and the UK in the autumn of 2026, and more concerts will be announced on an ongoing basis.

The band's latest work takes it all to new heights with music and an immersive live experience where power, populism and control collide while the line between reality and fiction gradually blurs. The album's first single, “THE KING”, was described by music medium 3voor12 as De Staat's “most uncompromising, unforgiving and boundary-busting track to date”. The single was followed up by “THE FIRE, GLORY, THE UNDERDOG” and “FREEDOM” — tracks revolving around themes such as complacency, power, divisiveness and artificial intelligence (AI).
