About the event

Declan Welsh and the Decadent West are back. After taking a break from writing their third album, the Glasgow-based band returns this autumn with a tour of more than 25 shows in the UK and Europe — from Saint Luke's in their hometown, to Berlin's Badehaus, London's The Grace, and Madrid's Sala Sol — to promote their new album Explicit Agitation, scheduled for release in September 2026.

This is their most ambitious release to date: a furious, penetrating record of modernity that does not distract from difficult subjects. From deindustrialized cities decimated by decades of neglect, to the casualties in Gaza enumerated in successive lines, to a crushing monologue conducted from the perspective of a ruling class villain. However, Explicit Agitation is also their most complete album — alongside politics, love, loneliness, loss of faith and reflective self-reflection on what the art of protest really serves. The album was recorded with Chris Marshall at Castle of Doom Studios, who was also responsible for their debut, and its title itself clearly defines the intention. The music fulfills it.

The band is led by vocalist and songwriter Declan Welsh; currently the line-up is completed by a rotating group of friends and musicians, alongside longtime bassist Ben Corlett. The band has built its reputation for uncompromising live performances and a work that strikes with equal force that moves. Their debut album Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold was shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year, and the second album cemented their position as one of the most important voices and touring bands. They sold out the Barrowland Ballroom twice, headlined Tenement Trail and performed on TRNSMT's main stage, as well as festivals such as Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Reeperbahn.

The band are happy to reschedule shows originally planned for spring 2025, and their recent performance at the Scottish Resonate conference was the best proof that their electrifying live show is still in great shape. The song “Hardly News” was featured on the soundtrack of the film Drop (Universal, 2025). They have 16 million streams, 4.5 million of which are for “Absurd”, the BBC Radio 1 Intro Track of the Week title, a New Music Friday playlist presence in the UK, and a nationwide advertising campaign with Tennant's. Declan recently signed a publishing deal with Notting Hill Music, and more information on the album's release will be released soon.
The return of one of the most important concert bands in the UK. Explicit Agitation will be released in September 2026 and the tour starts on September 24.
