Declan Welsh and the Decadent West are a Scottish indie rock band with elements of post-punk. The music is energetic and rhythm-driven with sharp guitars, danceable bass lines and a politically and socially conscious textual universe. They may be reminiscent of bands such as Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, Franz Ferdinand and the Iddles, where nervous nerve, groove and edge go hand in hand. On October 11, they will be leaving as part of their European tour.
With Declan Welsh at the front and Ben Corlett on bass, the band now alternately consists of friends and musicians. The band is known for their electric live shows, catchy hooks and lyrics that go close to contemporary issues. They have built a reputation as a band that rallies audiences in front of the stage and who deliver gigs that get talked about long after.
Together they have released four EPs and two albums to high praise, worked with Grammy- and award-winning producers and been nominated for Scottish Album of the Year. Their first album has already rounded out millions of streams and they are being played on Radio 1, Radio X and Radio Scotland, among others.
The concert follows the release of their third album 'Explicit Agitation', due out in September 2026. Recorded with Chris Marshall, the album revolves around the present from political tensions to personal themes such as love, loneliness and faith, and is written with the live audience in focus.
With a new record fully recorded and ready for release, the band continues to develop their sound and their catalogue of songs created for community in front of the stage.
