On Valentine's Day evening, music lovers in love and other people with a keen sense of hearing await a unique concert inspired by the practice of deep listening by Pauline Oliveros. The trio of Izabella Effenberg, Radek Szarek and Martin Weinert will move between seductive improvisations and romantic themes of Fryderyk Chopin, Claude Debussy and Krzysztof Komeda.
Oliveros, an American composer and accordion improviser, began formulating the idea of deep listening in the 1970s. At the time, she was interested in Native American cultures, among other things. Her goal was to achieve a state of as much attention to sound as possible. The practice conceived in this way consists of making music in a high state of receptivity to sound in spaces with significant resonance.
Versatile artist Izabella Effenberg tells of herself that as part of her creative work she travels, guided by the compass of her curiosity and love of sound. She has the ability to play unusual instruments. During the concert, listeners will immerse themselves in the suggestive sound of, among others, a vibraphone, an array mbir and a glass harp. Effenberg's compositions will be heard alongside motifs from works by Fryderyk Chopin and Claude Debussy, as well as themes by Krzysztof Komeda. Accompanied by Radek Szark, she will build a resonant cosmos using percussion instruments. The special aura of the game of the two musicians will benefit from the electronics of Martin Weinert, which will be a subtle and tasteful complement to the whole. In this spirit, the band also wants to diversify the mentioned melodies with improvisations, sound-art and electronic processing of acoustic vibrations — constantly listening deeply. The image and light will complement the mood. Deep Listening provides the perfect opportunity for a sonic date — alone or as a couple!
