Delfeayo Marsalis Quintet feat. Eric Alexander

Joris Dudley, PhD
Delfeayo Marsalis Quintet combines the raw emotional charge of blues with the modern sound of the author's compositions and the elegance of classic American songs.
Backed by the outstanding saxophonist Eric Alexander and an outstanding rhythm section — Renato Chicco (piano), Glen Fisher (double bass) and Joris Dudley (drums) — Marsalis takes the audience on an extraordinary musical journey. It runs from the streets of New Orleans, through Chicago blues clubs, to the legendary Harlem ballrooms of their heyday, not to mention many other musical stops.
From Armstrong to Parker, from Gershwin to Monk, with a mix of Jazz Crusaders styling, the performances of the Delfeayo Marsalis Quintet guarantee extraordinary emotions and pure joy flowing from the stage!
Delfeayo Marsalis (born 1965) is an outstanding instrumentalist, composer and outstanding record producer who has produced more than 100 records! He is a recipient of the Grammy Award — one of the most prestigious honors in the music industry — as well as a multiple nominee for the award.
During his career, he has had the opportunity to perform with a plethora of jazz and music legends, including Ray Charles, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Slide Hampton, Benny Green, Donald Harrison and Monty Alexander.
He also worked with all representatives of the Marsalis clan, and for many years he has been leading his own teams.
Delfeayo mentions the collaboration with the great masters like this:
“Art Blakey taught me patience and how to construct a solo. Thanks to Max Roach, I realized that I had to be in top shape at all times. Elvin Jones, with whom I worked for seven or eight years, taught me humanity, how to express myself through an instrument, and how to keep my pulse going without relying on other musicians.
Saxophonist Eric Alexander (born 1968) is known for his sophisticated style. He began his musical career with classical music studies at Indiana University, but quickly turned to jazz and tenor saxophone. He then studied at William Paterson University, where he was educated under such masters as Harold Mabern, Rufus Reid, Joe Lovano and Steve Turre.
He gained worldwide recognition by winning second place — behind Joshua Redman — in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition in 1991. Since then, he has enjoyed immense recognition both in the jazz community and among the public.
As a leader or co-leader, he has recorded more than 60 albums, not counting guest appearances on albums by other artists. In 2004, he signed an exclusive contract with the acclaimed HighNote Records label.
The ensemble is complemented by excellent, experienced musicians: Renato Chicco — piano, Glen Fisher — double bass and Joris Dudli — drums.
