Water and stone tell stories that go back millions of years. For many communities, rocks are their grandmothers—beings who keep the voices of the times in their silence. For years, sound artist Leonel Vásquez has been listening to these voices and making their hidden vibrations audible.
In The Song of Grandmothers, the sounds of water and stone meet. Through rotation and amplification, the vibrations of the rocks become audible and connect with instruments that translate water movements and flows into sounds. The result is a complex soundscape that makes the connection between water, earth and time sensually perceptible.
