The U.S. midterm elections: Route One/U.S.

A powerful epic about the United States of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Perpetual drifter-instructor Robert Kramer travels across the United States along the old highway Route 1. As a companion, he has the fictional doctor Doc (Paul McIsaac). Doc serves as the film's walking gaze, and on his journey he steps into a variety of widely different American lives and environments. Kramer was himself an American, but managed, like few others, to film his homeland with an exiled gaze. He lets the film overflow with images, encounters, conversations and impressions, but at the same time leaves room for long, floating passages where the country gets to just be. 'Route One/USA' paints an intimate and sprawling portrait of the United States, where past and present constantly interfere with each other.
