“Devils” is one of the most important and provocative works of Ken Russell, recognized as one of the greatest achievements of British cinema after the war.
About the event
In 1634, in Loudun, the charismatic and controversial priest Urbain Grandier comes into conflict with King Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu. Grandier's popularity among residents and his opposition to the authorities' plans make him a convenient target for political intrigue. When Sister Jeanne des Anges claims to have been attacked by an incubus in the form of Grandier, a series of violent exorcisms begins. Soon, more Ursuline women accuse him of seducing with black magic, and the case turns into a spectacle attracting crowds of spectators even from Paris. “Devils” is one of the most important and provocative works of Ken Russell, recognized as one of the greatest achievements of British cinema after the war.
