Musical Dialogues

Musical Dialogues is a series of concerts that focuses on new ideas in chamber music. These concerts show that chamber music is something lively and interesting. Meeting different instruments is like a conversation in which the sound, its timbre and how it changes are important.

The series is aimed at audiences open to diversity and musical imagination — listeners who value intimate closeness, but not necessarily predictability. Musical dialogues are a proposal for those who want not only to listen, but also to hear.

The duet of violin and viola is often treated in the traditional concert approach as a reduction — abandoning the full sound of a string quartet in favor of an extremely strict form. The October edition of the “Musical Dialogues” series proves, however, that this specific cast is in fact an autonomous, fascinating laboratory of sound. Duo Ad Flumen (Michał Józef Rożek and Krzysztof Jakub Szwarc) proposes a program that takes the listener through three centuries of textural and stylistic evolution of this composition, deconstructing the entrenched executive hierarchies. Instead of the classical division into soloist and accompanying instrument, we get an absolute partnership of voices — a river of sound (according to the Latin name of the band Ad Flumen), in which not only the fluidity of the phrase becomes key, but above all physical presence, resonance and microtonal nuance.
