The Benin bronzes

The Benin bronzes looted by British colonists in 1897 have become a global symbol for the hundreds of thousands of cultural assets from Africa that European colonial powers illegally appropriated and display in museums. In June 2021, the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz decided to return the bronzes to Nigeria. The guided tour focuses on the history (s) of Benin art from multiple perspectives. In addition, the question of what happens after the return is investigated. The offer was developed together with intermediaries from the National Museum Benin City.
