In the modernized production by director Stefan Kreissig and his ensemble, the popular British fairy tale is transformed into an imaginative and interactive musical narrative with numerous pantomimic interludes.
The clever Pit, the self-absorbed Eleonore and the lazy Paul are three little pigs who work together on a construction site. However, their harmonious everyday life goes off the rails when they learn of the arrival of the big bad wolf. To protect themselves from him, they want to build a safe house — but they won't agree on the material. Paul wants cuddly straw, Eleonore wants elegant wood — and Pit prefers solid stone. After an unsuccessful dispute, each of the pigs builds their respective dream house for themselves. But finally, the three friends have to realize that they can only successfully defend themselves against the wolf together.
Director Stefan Kreissig and his conceptually involved ensemble bring the classic British fairy tale from the late 19th century to the stage, carefully modernized with a surprising new ending and numerous innovative ideas. For example, the eponymous three little pigs are played alternately by the two players Nikolaus Herdieckerhoff and Mathieu Pelletier. The production, which is not only minimalistic in terms of personnel, also requires almost no props and, in combination with Pelletier's entertaining pantomimic interludes, leaves plenty of room for children's imagination to develop.
In addition, the piece offers several interaction options for viewers, who can sensually experience the building material used or can eagerly dance along with the “wolf blues.” The telling of the story is driven by the concise compositions by cellist Herdieckerhoff and ukulele and ocarina player Pelletier, who have created their own distinctive motif for each of the characters. This is accompanied by catchy songs to sing along and join in, which contribute to an entertaining production about the value of friendship and solidarity for very young theatre-goers.
