All waltzes at Salamander Castle Private Boarding School? Gabriel and Rosalinde, both from rich parents, are the school's dream couple. But not everyone in the classroom is high-class. Adele, who grew up in humble circumstances, has to earn her attic in boarding school with cleaning services. And even Falki, ridiculed by everyone as “Dr. Falke” because of his senior teaching style, doesn't have it easy either. When a mysterious invitation to a secret costume party appears, however, there is momentum in the otherwise strictly run school by Director Frank. In the frenzy of dance and masks, the boundaries between dream and reality blur.
About the event
Director Giulia Giammona retells the story of the Viennese operetta for young audiences to the enthralling catchy melodies of the “Waltz King” Johann Strauss — as a hands-on piece for children aged eight and over who turn the Staatsoper Hall into a stage.
We recommend that families book a preparatory family workshop. Under the direction of conductor Sebastian Ludwig, families learn how to sing along together. The Junge Staatsoper team provides information about the piece and the options for self-preparation.
