Venue: Chamber - “When you see this piece, you should be certain that it was written after the unnatural death of the author Rosa von Praunheim, it is, so to speak, a work of art post mortem and it is not the only one: After his funeral on October 16, 2023, for which no one appeared, Rosa made important films, namely 30 Years on the Whip and The Satanic Sau.
Originally, The Island of Perverts was a musical about Putin, but for the DT dramaturges, Putin's viciousness was not entertaining enough, which is why Rosa chose the divas of the new Germany, Sahra and Alice, as the protagonists.
Since turnaround is the word of the year, we remember that the days of cheerful liberal thinking are over, democracy is taking on a new meaning and permissive cultural activity will be severely punished in the near future, namely by abduction to the island of perverts.
Rosa is very happy that he no longer has to experience it alive and that he can look at it from below with absurd humor that will soon replace the reality of viewers in DT.”
— Rosa von Praunheim
Rosa von Praunheim was a filmmaker, producer, writer and poet, gifted painter, activist and one of the great pioneers of the gay movement in Germany and worldwide. Films, interviews, exhibitions, book projects: Rosa always worked on many things at the same time. He remained a restless spirit who analysed our present tense with polemics and curiosity, sharpness and wit, and sang constantly.
The fact that Rosa also wrote and directed plays in the last years of his life has a lot to do with the German Theatre: Every idiot has a grandma, except me was his first play — a theatre evening about herself, written and premiered in 2018 on the occasion of his 75th birthday. His second play, Hitler's Goat and the King's Hemorrhoids, was also premiered at the Kammerspiele. With Die Insel der Perversen, Rosa completed his DT trilogy: Rosa and important co-conspirators from the two previous evenings invent, write, compose, sing, dance for DT A German Singspiel. In contrast to previous evenings, the focus is on the near future: What if...? Does everything get dark or stay pink...?
