The Robbers

Venue: DT Stage - The world is out of joint. Not only are the harbingers of the French Revolution shaking society through class struggles and violence, but the family order of the old Count von Moor is also threatening to burst. Franz, the second-born son, feels betrayed of his father's favor and wants revenge. He devises an intrigue against the older, favored brother Karl, whereupon he is rejected by his father. Offended by his father's rejection, Karl joins a band of robbers to fight against injustice in society. Can this cause the desired escape from the existing systems? What values were passed on to the quarreling sons anyway?

While Karl campaigns for individual freedom and emancipation from the tyrannical state, Franz reveals the dark sides of the quest for power. The situation spirals out of control, the struggle for individual freedom sparks a relentless work of destruction. Hatred, self-centeredness and unleashed violence are spreading. Because the question is: Has the world been robbed, exploited, and robbed of everything long ago? Why are you hesitating? The robbers have all been gathered together a long time ago.

Claudia Bossard continues her engagement with German bourgeois society: By reading Schiller's famous classic as a contemporary document of mentality history, she explores the interplay of culture, ethics and politics in the terror of the Fortress Family.
