Alternative Australian rock legends, Dirty Three are coming to Store VEGA
For four decades, Dirty Three has stood as a monumental and unshakable artistic rock in the Australian music landscape.
Since violinist and pianist Warren Ellis, Mick Turner (guitar, organ, bass) and drummer Jim White founded the group in 1992, it has achieved legendary status for its style-creating compositions in the borderland of noise, melancholy, improvisation, jazz, postrock and folk.
The discography counts nine albums, of which, in particular, the 1998 masterpiece Ocean Songs has formed a school for generations of alternative rock bands and experimental musicians. The fact that Dirty Three have made a name for themselves far beyond their home borders is underlined by the fact that the group has toured internationally and shared stages with Sonic Youth, John Cale, Pavement and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, among others.
Warren Ellis is a regular part of the latter band, known here for his lacerating violin discharges, and he has been a regular collaborator with Nick Cave for many years on album and soundtrack releases. Mick Turner is working alongside the project as a producer and visual artist, while Jim White has worked alongside names such as Cat Power, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile.
After 12 years of album hiatus, Dirty Three returned in 2024 with the album Love Changes Everything — and the reception was delighted! Popmatters gave it a rating of 9 out of 10, Uncut characterized the sound as “My Bloody Valentine reinventing themselves as a folk group”, while Pitchfork gave it 8.0 and called it “some of the most beautiful and emotional work of the group's career”.
It is thus a group of seasoned legends in absolute top form who will give a rare Danish concert when they take part in Store VEGA on November 2.
