DKG #22 On the Vague Subgenres of Gross Horror (and How to Better Define Them)
Halloween is the perfect time to return to games that can give you chills. But can you put all the horror stories in one bag?
“Resident Evil” and “Five Nights at Freddy's” are series that, at first glance, have little in common. Both are known as survival horror. Does such a broad definition still make sense? Where are the boundaries between the different types of horror?
During the 22nd GrowClub Discussion Group meeting, we will look at the attempts of the gaming community to classify horror films. We will talk about the most popular subspecies, their distinctive features and problems with their definition. Together, we will also consider how these divisions can be organized to better reflect the diversity of modern games.
We invite all lovers of games, horror films and discussions about what makes us so eager to return to virtual nightmares.
