SEE YOU — the opening of the exhibition of original posters of employees and students of the Department of Graphic Design of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UMK in Toruń

The exhibition “See you” presents original posters of employees and students of the Department of Graphic Design of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The collected works address topics related to the problems and challenges of the modern world. Among them we can find social, ecological and cultural posters that not only comment on the reality around us, but above all encourage us to stop, reflect and think independently.

The poster, although it uses an abbreviation, a sign and a message, can become a space for asking questions. The presented projects do not offer unambiguous answers. Each of them invites the recipient to their own interpretation, confronting them with the themes. The image here becomes not only a carrier of information, but also an impulse to think and look more closely at reality.

The variety of topics addressed is reflected in the formal layer of the presented works. In addition to economical, synthetic graphic solutions, there are compositions with an extensive structure, using painterness, image expression, typography or multilayeredness of meanings. This diversity shows that contemporary author's poster can take many forms and remains an open field for artistic and design experimentation.

An important element of the exhibition is its unusual arrangement, which encourages closer contact with the presented posters. The method of exposure allows the audience to “consume” both their content and form, to perceive the composition, color, typography and individual visual language of the works.

The very title of the exhibition “See you” leaves room for many interpretations. It can mean a simple goodbye and a promise to meet again. It can also refer to the future, to what we have yet to see and what we cannot yet predict. “See you” can also be understood literally: as an incentive to look, to see what often goes unnoticed.

In this sense, the exhibition is not only a presentation of posters, but also an invitation to look closely. See you later, perhaps again, and perhaps for the first time — with eyes that, after meeting these works, already see a little differently.
