She gained recognition for her versatility. Performing as a soloist, chamber musician or orchestral artist, she has become “one of the most respected contemporary cellists in Europe” (Loud & Quiet). Dobrawa Czocher began her musical journey at the age of seven, later continuing her studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the Hochschule fur Musik in Detmold, Germany. She was also a soloist of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Szczecin. For many years he has collaborated with Hania Rani, with whom they released two albums “Biała Flaga” (2015) and “inner Symphonies” (2021). Both were released by the legendary, prestigious label Deutsche Grammophon.
About the event
Dobrawa Czocher made her solo debut with “Dreamscapes” in 2023 (BMG/Modern Recordings); the album gained critical, public and industry acclaim, as evidenced by six nominations for the prestigious German Opus Klasssik Awards. Since then, the artist has performed all over Europe in the most renowned concert halls. Czocher also composes music for performances or installations — just to mention his participation in the site-specific opera “D'Arc” directed by Krystian Lady, realized by the Warsaw Uprising Museum on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the uprising. The second album, “State of Matter”, was released this year on the label 130701 (imprint of FatCat Records). It is a deeply contemplative and at the same time rich sound work that emphasizes the evolution of the artistic language of Czocher. The album was created after moving from Warsaw to the Baltic Sea, which strongly inspired the material. The closeness of nature — forests and the sea — have been reflected in works that explore incessant change. The album exudes rhythmic subtlety, quiet intensity. The artist combined careful craftsmanship with free-flowing expressiveness, combining her classical roots with fresh instrumentalization. Percussive cello playing techniques intertwine here with Moog, non-analog electronics with the artist's multi-layered voice. Musical inspiration can be found in the works of Bach, Kodaly, Reich or Richter.
