About the project:
Can the experience of motherhood be a space of creation in which creation is intertwined with everyday life, relationship and community?

“temporary home. mother-making practices” is a laboratory of creative practices that grow out of the experience of motherhood and care. For three consecutive Tuesdays, we want to live for a moment in the Temporary House as an extension of the Rotating House of Culture and treat it as a space for experimentation: a place where you can check together how to practice art in conditions of daily care, interrupting, negotiating time and constantly returning to the process.

Each meeting starts from a different individual practice, starting from scenography, performance or choreography and other aspects of our work, those converging and those separate; they are all parts of a single process. We are interested in what can happen between them: what practices will arise, will be abandoned, transferred or transformed by subsequent people and subsequent meetings. The starting point is our own experience of creating and mothering at the same time. Motherhood reveals a model of work that does not always fit into the traditional conception of the artistic process as continuous, focused and aimed at a specific result. Creation also takes place in fragments, through interruptions and returns, between daily activities and in constant relationship with other people and their needs. We want to treat these conditions not as a restriction that must be removed in order to be able to create, but as a possible source of artistic practice. Therefore, children here are not the recipients of a program prepared for them or a logistical problem that needs to be solved. They are co-participants in a situation that remains open to change, chance, interruption and mutual influence.

In the common laboratory, we invite mainly mothers-artists and people who combine creative practice with the experience of caring, with or without children. It is not necessary to attend all three meetings. You can enter the process for one day, bring your own experience, practice, question or just be together.
During the three days there will be conversation, movement, work with space and matter, scenographic micro-interventions, outdoor activities and micro-practices possible together with children. We do not yet know where exactly they will lead us. This ignorance is part of the project. Perhaps the “Temporary House” will become for three days a kind of microinstitution built according to motherly principles. A place where art and parenting are not mutually exclusive experiences, and artistic practice can adapt to life instead of demanding that life disappear for a while.

Program:

September 15 — Monika Nyckowska
Title: Scenography of interruptions and remnants — Laboratory activity in the cottage from 14:00
The first day of the laboratory starts from the practice of scenography and the question of what remains after the interrupted process: fragments, remains, traces, unfinished gestures and things to which we constantly return.
Workshops 17:00-19:00 — scenographic practices
A workshop around what arises between focus and distraction, action and interruption, one's own practice and the presence of others. Together with the children, we will treat interruption not as an obstacle, but as a creative gesture — the opportunity to change direction, take over, tell and leave a mark. From leftovers, incompleteness and mutual interference, we will create a common, growing scenography — a space in which authorship becomes a relationship, and what is unplanned can become the beginning of something new.

22 September — Magda Fejdasz
10:00-11:30 — open operation
Invitation to be together at the cottage and talk about creation with the children. The starting point will be to jointly create a map of practices — small actions, ways and strategies arising at the junction of creativity and care. The selected practices can be taken with you for a walk around Jazdow and checked in movement, space and everyday activities.
12:00 — 14:00 — own work/workshop in a temporary home
A further part of the process devoted to developing practices and materials resulting from the meeting.

29 September — Weronika Pelczyńska
Laboratory activity in the cottage from 14:00
16:30-18:00 — open outdoor activity
A meeting based on choreographic practice and the relationship between movement, care, space and the presence of children. Together we will leave the cottage into the Jazdow space, treating a walk, a playground and everyday gestures as a possible field of artistic practice.

Leading persons:
Monika Nyckowska — set designer, costume designer, architect and researcher. Doctor of Art in the field of scenography. In her artistic and research practice, she deals with feminist scenographic strategies, motherhood, interruption, leftovers and the relationship between creative practice and care. She teaches stage design and costume design, works in theater, performance and art education.
Magda Fejdasz — artist and performer working with practices based on presence, relationship and everyday experience. Within the framework of joint artistic activities, she also explores the ways in which creative practice functions in the experience of motherhood and care.
Weronika Pelczyńska — choreographer and artist working with movement and performative practices. She is interested in the relationship between bodies, space, co-presence and process. In her practice, she develops choreographic ways of working based on interaction, exchange and building situations in which movement can be a tool of encounter.
