Living together is an endless festival of attraction and repulsion, harmony and grit. A common home is the laborious negotiation of every inch and every movement, and the unforgiving pushing of each other with elbows, tails and roots. Intergenerational conversations at any time, in the kitchen, toilet, bathroom and bedroom at the same time.

“I Combine Words of Mixed Feelings” is a creative writing workshop about everyday interspecies encounters. During the workshops, we will recall memories of different interspecies interactions and look for means of expression for mixed feelings. Playing with the various conventions of the letter, we will have conversations with those above and below conversations, which we usually omit in correspondence. It will be time to look for celebrities who would like to address the heads that burrow from the pavement slabs, to those that float in the city air, to the ants in the kitchen, to the pier, to the dog-sitter, to the scythe, to the jay, to the wild cows from the estate, to jasmine, to the crows from the parking lot and to the rats from the Powisce station.

The starting point for this proposal is the romantic practice of writing cross-genre letters, which I have been developing since 2023 in the series Letters of Mixed Feelings. In the form of a workshop, it opens up a space for collective vocalization and processing of intertwined experiences and emotions associated with living together. Within Domology, we will plant this poetic nation of feeling and reflection on the relational aspects of the creation of the city on the ground of a hybrid, monstrous Śródmieście. The workshop will end with a joint performative reading of letters accompanied by field recordings and electronics.

About the artist:
Anna Jurkiewicz — interdisciplinary artist and singer. She creates music, sound art, video installations, performance, texts, fragrances, workshops, sound and sensory walks. In her artistic research, she deals with relations with the non-human, postulating a meaningful inhabitation of the landscape and interspecies empathy. In the Silent Partners project, since 2023, he has been following springtails, soil-forming organisms that quietly facilitate the decomposition and rebirth of fungi and plants. Author of several multi-sensory exhibitions, including:. “Silent Partners” at the Zamek Cultural Center and “Soft Mulch Crowd” in the Rotational House of Culture. Author of the collection of texts “Letters of Mixed Feelings” (from 2023), presented at exhibitions, among others, at the Forum Stadtpark in Graz. He uses listening and voice to interact with various Anthropocene landscapes, studying reverberations and acoustic forms and spaces created by the water cycle. He practices field recording, samples and processes not only human sounds with electronics. Vocally, he explores the diversity of expression in music transmitted orally. He often works with archives, asking questions about their materiality and interactions with modern bodies. He co-creates such musical projects as: Sekunda Mała, Zaswiatycze, ZYEM, Songs to Death, Starorzecze, Volyn w Pieśniy, Ziemski Lament, Żyto. In 2026, she took 2nd place in the Polish Radio Nowa Tradycja competition as half of the ZYEM duo. Half of the Messy Sensing art collective.
