E. T. A. Hoffmann described Don Giovanni as an “opera of all operas.” The philosopher Søren Kierkegaard even gave the work a place in his main script, where the title hero is described as an “incarnation of the genius of everything sensual.” Don Giovanni is regarded either as an erotic womanizer or a nefarious lustful, as an incarnate Dionysus or a despicable sex offender. In Roland Schwab's production, too, he meets us fragmented. Driven by an insatiable desire for more, he tumbles between party excess, orgy of violence and ascetic seclusion. For the first time here at the house, you can experience Iurii Samoilov as the “seducer of all seducers” as well as in the role of Donna Elvira Olga Peretyatko.
