Don Quixote

Is there still room for Don Quixote in the modern world? And if so, who could he be today? A social worker, an artist, a madman? Or a revolutionary, with a raised fist and an idea leading the people to the barricades? One thing remains the same: Don Quixote is a man who tries at all costs to reinvent himself.

A loose adaptation of Cervantes's work was created by Bartosz Cwaliński, and an important part of the performance are songs written by director Jakub Zalasa and composer Jan Bąk.

The creators propose a performance set in a post-apocalyptic reality, half of purgatory, half theatrical. We follow the adventures of Don Quixote, starting from the famous episode in the inn, through the skirmish with the windmills or the release of the galleholders, but shown from a contemporary perspective. The show does not escape either from the more serious themes present in the novel, nor from its adventurous and comedic character.

It is a story about the collision of dreams with reality, fantasy with reason and courage with absurdity. Next to Don Quixote appears, among others, the faithful Sancho Pansa - a man who steps hard on the ground, looks at the world much more practically, although he too, over time, allows himself to be carried away by the madness of his master. Together they form a duo in which one wants to save the world and the other tries to at least make sure that everyone returns from this expedition in inches.
