Do you love the energy, improvisation and top-tuned interplay of jazz?
Then don't miss tonight's rare musical summit between DR Big Band, master violinist Harald Haugaard and a string of Nordic folk music names in DR Koncerthuset!

We call it a folk music gala because the stage abounds with strong performers from all over the colorful folk music scene. But at the same time, the evening is a unique tour of the Nordic music cultures, showing both everything we have in common and the unique regional characteristics of music.

We set out from Fanø in Denmark and travel past Shetland and Norway, where we disembark. Moving over the mountains, through moss- and birch-scented Swedish forests over the Gulf of Bothnia, the Finnish lakes all the way to Karelia, where we find ancient Nordic drone instruments such as the Jew's harp.

Along the way we meet halling-dancing from Norway, Swedish polkas, shepherd's cries, flinching reels and jigs from Shetland and enchanting mesmerizing drone music from the land of 1000 lakes.

Our world-renowned Danish fiddler Harald Haugaard has put together the programme and selected some of the most prominent soloists within contemporary Nordic folk music, who individually — and not least together with DR Big Band and conductor Geir Lysne — interpret and explore the Nordic sound.
