Drink The Sea

Drink The Sea is a new supergroup of world-renowned musicians who are recognized as some of the best songwriters in their 90s bands.

It consists of:

Peter Buck is the founder and guitarist and songwriter of R.E.M. His collaborations with other bands and songwriters include dozens of albums over 40 years. Collaborations with Drink The Sea member Barrett Martin include more than 40 albums to date.

Duke Garwood - a respected British singer, songwriter and guitarist who has released many solo albums. He has also collaborated on albums with Mark Lanegan, the lead singer of Screaming Trees.

Alain Johannes - Chilean-American producer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, founder of the band Eleven. His virtuoso skills have been used by many artists, including Chris Cornell, PJ Harvey, Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures and others.

Barrett Martin - Grammy Award-winning producer, who was also a drummer and songwriter in the Seattle band Screaming Trees, as well as in the supergroup Mad Season. He founded the instrumental Tuatara project with Peter Buck and has worked on more than 200 albums as a producer and session musician, recording with R.E.M., Queens Of The Stone Age, Brazilian star Nando Reis and many songwriters, among others.

Lisette Garcia - Mexican-American drummer who has recorded on many albums from around the world. She has also worked as a translator of lyrics for albums made in South America.

Drink The Sea was created three years ago, in 2022, when Alain and Barrett jammed into Barrett's studio in Olympia, Washington, to see what “magic” they could create together. Two years later, Barrett and Duke toured together in England and Iceland, and then recorded additional tracks in Reykjavik. Later, Barrett, Duke and Peter met in São Paulo to record more songs, after which they were joined by Alain at Joshua Tree. This was followed by further sessions at his studio in Santiago, Chile. The final production took place at Barrett's studio in Olympia and the mix in Barcelona. The band's two debut albums were literally recorded all over the world.

The band's name comes from a verse written by Duke, and the albums are produced and mixed by Barrett and Alain. They reflect the members' vast experience as songwriters, arrangers and vocalists. They are also heavily influenced by world music — although the songs are based on a classical composition of guitars, bass and drums, they also feature the sounds of Arabic oud lute, Indian sitar, Indonesian gamelan and a variety of exotic percussion instruments such as Brazilian surdo, frame drum, vibraphone, marimba and kalimba.
