“If I disappeared tomorrow, would anyone even notice?” No one. Evan is sure of that. The very thought of school, contact with peers, is unbearable. This noisy crowd, embarrassing attempts to strike up a conversation and no place to escape... As part of therapy, he writes a letter to himself. He was supposed to motivate, but again something went wrong, and then it only got worse. The letter fell into the hands of a classmate, Connor. It made him very angry because Evan also wrote about his sister Zoe.
A few days later, Connor commits suicide, and his parents find Evan's letter next to him and decide that the boys must have been friends. Trying to correct a mistake overtakes Evan, especially since finally what he says is important to someone. It tells the story of a friendship that never existed.
