The classic ballet The Nutcracker, which is a story about the adventures of little Clara, takes on new meanings thanks to its combination with Charles Dickens's Christmas Eve Tale. The extraordinary stage momentum, characteristic of the style of the Hungarian choreographer Yuri Vámos, is manifested both in the rich costumes, the scenography and in the unique stage fantasy of course. Technically demanding for the ballet troupe, and at the same time entertaining and full of emotion, the story of the Scrooge family is combined with the classic lines of the ballet libretto and the famous dance scenes: snowflakes, characteristic dances or the signature pas de deux.

It is a proposal designed for whole families and at the same time ambitious enough to meet the requirements of connoisseurs of ballet art.

A performance co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of the program “Conductor-Resident”.

Summary of libretta

The festive atmosphere of Christmas, Christmas candles are lit on the street. The only person who does not get carried away by the joyful atmosphere of the World is Scrooge — a greedy and soulless moneylender. He does not hesitate even on Christmas Eve to remind indebted neighbors about their outstanding loans.

When Bob Cratchit, Scrooge's accountant and the favorite of the whole neighborhood, dares to joke about his boss's gloomy disposition, Scrooge fires him without hesitation. Bob is left without money and work — he can no longer buy a Christmas turkey for his family, and his daughter Clara will not get her dream gift: a nutcracker doll.

The girl is inconsolable. In despair, she begs the moneylender to give her a toy. However, Scrooge in anger destroys the doll - the nutcracker.

At this moment, a deceased accomplice appears in the office of “Scrooge & Marley”. The spirit of Marley arrives chained from the abyss of hell. Scrooge, however, does not pay much attention to him and goes home.

There he experiences further strange hallucinations, but nevertheless goes to bed. However, he is tormented by ghostly dreams: the Spirit of Death, together with his servants, places chains on him and leads him to hell.

Finally, the good Spirit of Christmas frees him from torment. She helps him fix everything: Scrooge fixes the nutcracker and gives it as a gift to Clara. In his dream, he now experiences the great joy of the girl and the other children, whom he also gave.

When he wakes up the next morning, he is already a completely different man...

When he wakes up, shaken by what he has experienced, Scrooge is in a hurry to really fix everything - and discovers that in reality almost everything is going as it did in the happy finale of his dream.
