Grandparents. Part II

Boredom. The boredom of a world that has been explained to the end. A world in which the glass and the eye have supplanted ghosts, demons, ghosts and mystery. But they haven't disappeared. Mara. Stryzga. Phantom. The North Face. Suppressed by the official order, they return under new guises.

Mickiewicz launches a world in which love, eroticism, nature and spirituality are still inseparable. The play by Aleksandra Popławska, inspired by the second part of Dziadów, fragments of the first and fourth parts, as well as the Phantom, is not about an ethnographic reconstruction of the rite, but about finding its forbidden, carnal and disturbing energy.

Grandfathers were a ritual performed on the outskirts of the world. Here — in an abandoned chapel turned into a squat — they return as a black, pagan mass balancing between a rite of honor for the dead and a narcotic vision, between community and collective hallucination. Like the rite in the past, today the rave becomes an experience of transcending. Music, body and community open the passage to the invisible. And the sacrum is intertwined with physicality, dirt, excess and laughter.

Not to reassure the dead. To allow what has been suppressed to speak. Launch intuition and emotions. Let traumas, sins, loneliness, emptiness and lost love speak.

The actor's body becomes a medium. The word is an action, it has the power of a spell, a curse, an order. The music of Tomasz Organek and Tomasz Mreńca takes over the function of former incantations. Organek's original, heavy and guitar compositions meet the electronic music of Mreńca, who will perform it live during the performance. Ambient, hypnotic pulse and rave energy combine the originality of the rite with the contemporary sound, building its trance rhythm.

Romanticism was a rebellion against a world enclosed within the bounds of reason.

This rebellion is coming back.
