About the event

A moving and intimate portrait of one of the most charismatic Polish clergy.

The documentary shows Jan Kaczkowski as a man, not just a well-known clergyman and social worker. It is a story about love, empathy and living a dignified life despite illness. The film was made from private recordings, unpublished archives and memories of loved ones, showing Fr John not only as a priest and creator of the Puck hospice, but also a man struggling with illness, anxiety and his own weaknesses.

Fr Jan Kaczkowski — priest, social worker and founder of the Puck hospice — made himself known as an altruist, full of self-distance, charisma and humor. The film avoids creating an idealized image. Through the use of private, hitherto unknown archives and memories of loved ones, the creators show an authentic image of a priest who, despite his own suffering, fought to the end for the dignity and subjectivity of others.

This is the first such personal and multidimensional painting of Fr Kaczkowski, showing both his strength and human fragility. At the center of this story remains a man marked by a disease that did not make it the axis of his life. The figure of the priest, the self-proclaimed “oncocelebrity”, is revealed here as someone who fought for the dignity of others and constantly reminds us that the most important thing is love: for the other person, for the family, for God and for oneself.
