About the event

On the next anniversary of Poland regaining independence, big and small moviegoers are invited to celebrate Polish Cinema Day together!

We will start with a proposal for the little ones. “Amazing adventures of socks 4. Get to work!” is the next part of the blockbuster movie, the main characters of which are socks. Young viewers, and this time, can count on new, unusual adventures of unruly, escaping from the laundry basket, parts of the wardrobe. The next item on the program will be a great Polish classic. “The Double Life of Weronika” — the first foreign film by the eminent director Krzysztof Kieślowski — is an aesthetically sublime poetic meditation on fate, with an excellent creation by Irène Jacob. We will premiere Lech Majewski's latest film. In “12 Images of Enslavement”, the director introduces the world of Jacek Malczewski, a painter-symbolist who painted Poland at the turn of the 20th century — a country that did not exist on the map at that time. We will end the film festival with the pre-premiere screening of Maciej Sobieszczański's film “Through the Wall”, awarded with the Golden Lions at the 51st FPFF in Gdynia.

12 images of enslavement

Poland 2025, 83′

directed by Lech Majewski

cast: Jarosław Ulman, Maria Błęka, Paulina Michalska, Mateusz Bujoczek, Oskar Bielat

In his film, Lech Majewski opens up the world of Jacek Malczewski, a painter-symbolist who painted Poland at the turn of the 20th century — a country that did not exist on the map at the time. Its territory was divided between Russia, Austria-Hungary and Prussia.

Exploring the phantasmagoric imagination of the painter in a visual dialogue without words, Majewski creates his own vision of Polish history over the past two centuries. Characters from Malczewski's canvases march through decades of history, fight and flee from under successive yokes. They become nomads traversing Siberia and the endless fields to finally arrive at a modern, urbanized reality immersed in apathetic consumption.

Through the wall

Poland 2026, 120′

dir. Maciej Sobieszczański

cast: Maria Dębska, Jakub Gierszał, Agnieszka Grochowska, Arkadiusz Jakubik

The film awarded the Golden Lions at the Feature Film Festival in Gdynia is a story that really happened!

In 1947, 27-year-old Wiesława Pajdak was arrested and sent to the communist prison on Rakowiecka. A few days later, 27-year-old Jerzy Smiechowski is sent to the same prison. One night they start a conversation through the wall using Morse code, and although it is hard to believe, the young fall in love with each other.

After six years of meeting, they see each other “live” for the first time during their prison wedding. After being released, they live together happily for 55 years. This is the story of an extraordinary encounter and the love that saved them both.
