Women's Day at the Silesian Philharmonic will be marked by musical stories about women who fascinated, inspired and delighted artists of different eras. The protagonists of this evening will be musical muses, recipients of dedications and women whose presence has left a mark on some of the most beautiful cards in the history of music.
The program will include Fryderyk Chopin's Waltz in C minor Op. 64 No. 2, dedicated to Charlotte de Rothschild — pianist, patron of the arts and one of the most important figures of Parisian artistic life of the 19th century. In this elegant miniature, dance charm meets Chopin's characteristic melancholy note, creating music that is subtle and at the same time extremely emotional.
A special place will also be occupied by Adam Wesołowski's violin concerto The Light of a Woman. This is the first concert in history dedicated to all stages of a woman's life, based on many symbols of her life. The symbolism that Adam Wesołowski uses in his work becomes the seal of authenticity of the message and the image. This 30-minute composition of “luminous” harmony is a pioneer, like the woman who goes first, paves the way and inspires others. The solo part will be performed by Karolina Nowotczyńska, violinist, chamber musician and director of the Elbląg Chamber Orchestra, who has been actively present on Polish and international stages for years. She has toured Europe, Asia and North America, winning numerous prizes at violin competitions, including first prizes at international competitions in Osaka, Padua and Vienna.
Among the works performed will also sound the famous Adagietto from Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony. According to tradition, this piece was a musical confession of love addressed to Alma Schindler, later Alma Mahler. The gentle sound of the strings and harp created one of the most moving musical declarations of affection in the history of music, to this day delighting with its simplicity and sincerity.
The programme will be rounded off by Ludwig van Beethoven's Moon Sonata — a work dedicated to Giulietta Guicciardi, a young aristocrat and pupil of the composer. Although her famous nickname only appeared many years later, the piece remains a symbol of lyricism, mystery and emotional depth that have fascinated listeners around the world for more than two centuries.
