Fool's Day

In the spring of 2021, the Warsaw SWPS University announced a report, the aim of which was to select “the best Polish film of all time”. The result of the public opinion poll may have surprised many, but it certainly pleased even those who did not vote for this film. Because he won Marek Koterski's “Day of the Fool” from 2002, a film with virtually no enemies, which is already unusual among the Polish people, but with the entire Polish intelligentsia on its side. And even if a person did not consider himself intelligent, he could still easily identify himself with the character of the main character, a certain Adasis Miauczyński, humiliated by the so-called surrounding reality.

“The Day of the Madman” was created according to the famous maxim that nothing pleases as someone else's misfortune. It is therefore a funny comedy, in which only Miauczyński himself is not to be laughed at.

“Day of the Madman”, once written as a drama for the theater, has already had several stage premieres, once it was even staged in the form of a musical. In our theater, the next production was undertaken by a well-known director of the younger middle generation, Piotr Ratajczak. In the text original — in addition to the main character — there are a lot of supporting characters; in Ratajczak's directorial concept “we are all Adasias M.” How it will look on stage — to be checked at the Atheneum from June 2022.

The iconic character of Adasis Miauczyński will be played by Adam Cywka.
