Gül gives birth to a baby in a truck, at the sight of which her husband runs away. The baby does not resemble a man, but for her remains a beloved little one. Left to herself, the mother tries to protect them from people, and people from his dangerous nature. In doing so, he has to face the violence and contempt of the environment. “Diary of a Monster Mother” is a dark Turkish horror about motherhood, which requires more and more terrible decisions. Tenderness towards the child constantly clashes here with disgust and fear, and the exquisite characterization and special effects intensify the horror. The film poses an uncomfortable question: who raises more terror — a monstrous infant or people willing to harm his mother?
