The Baltic Drama Theater never ceases to amaze! After very well received dramatic performances and a performance for children, he proposes a comedy to the Policans, which is a kind of journey back in time to the 1970s — an era in which the greyness of the Polish People's Republic was most effectively broken with good humor.
The theatrical adaptation of the cult “Girls to Take” — a 1972 film hit directed by Janusz Kondratiuk with an unforgettable creation by Ewa Szykulska — takes viewers to the 1970s, straight to the snow-covered capital. The winter adventure of the title heroines, full of unexpected situations, brilliant dialogues and musical hits that the whole country hummed, becomes not only a source of excellent entertainment, but also an excuse to portray a Polish woman — a brave woman of the Polish People's Republic. And although everyone remembers the times when gray covered all the other colors of life, and the bitter prose of everyday life was unlikely to favor romantic adventures, after all, everyone wanted “to be different!”. Although reality has changed beyond recognition, human desires have remained the same — everyone still dreams of love, happiness and a little magic in everyday life. And this is what makes the fate of the heroines close also to modern viewers, and their vicissitudes, despite the passing of the years, invariably cause a smile and emotion.
Take a walk with our heroines through frosty jazz Warsaw and see if “girls are to be taken” and whether the long-awaited visit to the capital will turn out to be sweet as sultanian cream. And at the same time, let yourself be carried away by the unique acting, delightful performances of the slagers from the 70s and nostalgic scenography that will awaken old memories in you.
