Dalava | Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch with Amir ElSaffar: Inner Spaces

The flight from Brno to Baghdad takes, with good connections, a dozen hours. We will visit both of these places in one evening, and in addition we will make time travel. Two projects will be presented at the concert, each of which has the power to warp space-time! The Dálava band and the duo Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch/Amir ElSaffar refer to specific places on the world map.

The Dálava project was started in 2013 by vocalist Julia Úlehla and guitarist Aram Bajakian. The aim of their activity is the improvisational processing and development of traditional material, more precisely Moravian songs, collected by the artist's great-grandfather in the first half of the 20th century. In Wrocław they will be accompanied by Peggy Lee on cello and Josh Zubot on violin.

Later in the evening, jazz and improvised music will meet electronics, ambience and ancient Arabic tradition, thanks to the electronic/acoustic duo of Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch and Amir ElSaffar. The latter in the project presented during the Jazztopad will sing, play the trumpet and santura, creating a trance-like but dramatically-differentiated sound — from contemplation to freejaz jerking and back. Hoesch, on the other hand, will loop and process them in real time. The artists performed together for the first time in 2022, but had previously worked together on a larger project called Luminiscencia. ElSaffar combined maqam with flamenco in it and it was on this occasion that he discovered that the Italian uses electronics in a way that makes him a full-fledged participant in musical dialogue.
