Ebb & River — a journey into the enchanting and gloomy waters

About the event

Ebb & River — a journey into the enchanting and gloomy waters
When darkness falls, Nørrebro Library transforms into a sensuous universe of water, light, sound, music and stories.

Come and experience the library transformed into a living universe where light, sound, music and stories meet.

You must have a cultural passport to experience the event. The Culture Pass for Culture Night 2026 can be purchased digitally from 11 September at 12 noon on kulturnatten.dk. If you would rather have a physical Culture Pass, it can be purchased at all 7-Eleven stores in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area from September 28.

Under the theme of Ebbe & River, the library's spaces are challenged with lights, projections and visual experiments by light artist Rune Brink. The evening begins kid-friendly with a soap bubble show, workshop and soap bubble disco for young and old.

Later, the evening features readings, poetry, narratives and an evocative sound and music program.

Soap Bubble ShowExperience a magical soap bubble show, try your hand at giant bubbles and fun bubble tricks in the workshop, and finish off with a soap bubble disco where you can dance in a rain of bubbles. Programs:
18:00 — 18:30 Soap Bubble Show
18:30 — 19:30 Soap Bubble Workshop
19:30 — 20:00 Soap Bubble Disco

Letters to the Mediterranean: Write a letter in the night. 20:30 - 00:00
In connection with the exhibitions SOLID: THE SOCIAL LIFE OF DEAD BODIES and A name, not a number, we invite you to write letters. Write a letter or a drawing to a human who lost his life on his journey across the Mediterranean. From 8.30pm we read out letters, light candles and commemorate them while the sea is visualised around us.

Sound & Music — Program
20.00 — Nikolaj Gerstenfeldt
Real sounds from high seas and skies have been on a long journey through dusty reel tape recorders, violin strings, wooden boxes interspersed with contact microphones, as well as a slew of analog filters, and are now ready to meet in an evil, friendly and semi-accommodating machine sound landscape.

21.00 — The Snow Thesizer Show
Snöleoparden and Kim Daniel Borch have created a monstrous ambient machine using old mixer desks that no one wants to have anymore. Based on the no-input feedback technique, where everything in the system influences itself and each other -and even extends to being influenced by the space around the ambient machine.

22.00 — The Snow Leopard
The Danish/Pakistani musician performs in many shapes and colors, with a multitude of different instruments in his luggage. What he comes up with on the day will be quite interesting to see.

11 p.m. -- Kim Borch
Satellite hacker and synth engineer Kim Borch joins in under the tabs with an impromptu drone concert on home-built instruments. A massive sound curtain is in store.
