A talent for murder

A TALENT FOR MURDER is a deeply fascinating journey into a world in which history and myth are intertwined in a delightful way.

In 1995, the celebrated crime writer Patricia Highsmith (Helen Mirren) retired to her chalet in the Swiss Alps. Tired of the world and her readership, she only surrounds herself with books, cats and her beloved collection of ancient weapons. The self-chosen loneliness comes to an abrupt end when the young editor Edward Ridgeway (Alden Ehrenreich) suddenly appears at her door. On behalf of her New York publishing house, he is to persuade the stubborn American woman to write a last novel with her most famous character: impostor and murderer Tom Ripley. Highsmith refuses. Unless Edward helps her invent the perfect murder. This requires an inconspicuous average guy like him and the right tools — a sharp knife, a pistol, or maybe a pinch of arsenic? Edward's visit to the old lady quickly turns into a dangerous game of cat and mouse, in the course of which both have to ask themselves who is actually pulling the strings here.
