Just the end of the world

Venue: DT Stage - After twelve years, a young man returns to his family. During this time, he didn't let anyone hear from him, while he successfully established himself as an artist in the big city and moved further and further away from the family in the small town in his heart and mind. And now? Whether a meeting is still possible? Whether years of contactlessness mitigate or harden the judgement on each other? Whether the years spent together outweigh the years spent apart? Together with his ensemble, director Christopher Rüping goes right into the middle of the drama Family.

Simply the End of the World is the first part of Christopher Rüping's family trilogy, in which, together with his respective ensemble, he questions the construct of the family in the 21st century in three independent works — without any claim to completeness. The second part of the family trilogy Breasts and Eggs based on Mieko Kawakami was created in 2022 at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. The third part Grief is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter will be shown at Schauspielhaus Bochum from March 2024

The production Simply the End of the World is a takeover by Schauspielhaus Zürich and has received numerous awards: with an invitation to the 58th Berliner Theatertreffen, as production of the year 2021, with the Nestroy Prize 2021 for the best German-language performance. The ensemble was also celebrated: Benjamin Lillie was honored as Actor of the Year 2021, Maja Beckmann as Actress of the Year 2021. With Corinna Harfouch in the role of mother, the production revised for DT will be shown on a Berlin stage for the first time.
