EX

Daniel and Sibylle have been married for years. It used to be different, but the balance seems to be positive: they have a stable job, wonderful children and a comfortable apartment, where everyday life usually runs at a predictable rhythm. Until the day when that predictability is thundered by an unexpected knock on the door. On the doorstep stands Franziska — Daniel's former partner. The presence of the “ex” acts like a spark: it brings out long-hidden tensions, but above all it forces the protagonists to confront questions that until now have been easy to silence. Are they really the people they wanted to become on the threshold of adulthood? Wasn't the path they took in life marked by too many compromises? And finally, are they still looking for delight in the world in their lives, or are they left with only a quiet disappointment?

In Marius von Mayenburg's latest play, imbued with bitter, sometimes even merciless humor, we touch the heart of the relationship between three people, but we also find a portrait of a generation of modern 40-50-year-olds.

Mayenburg once again confirms his class as a master of cut, precise dialogues and dramaturgy that grows almost imperceptibly, only to finally strike in full force.
