About the event

Join us for a performance of Elders, 2046: For Living and Dying Otherwise, where you’ll go behind the scenes of a fictionalised radio soap opera set in a trans care home of the future.

The year is 2046. The NHS has collapsed, care has been capitalised and medical transition has been outlawed. A group of trans abolitionists found a secret commune within the walls of an abandoned care home. Calling their new home ‘Glamour House’, they begin to organise and adopt new (and old) ways of caring – to give each other a good life and, when it’s time, a good death.

This is a story of radical kinship, survival and care, but with the hallmarks of all good soap operas: romance, drama, betrayal and repair!

The show features live performances of episodes from the soap, brought to life with foley sound effects, geriatric drag and a miniature model of ‘Glamour House’. There will be interactive elements, but participation is optional.

This work draws on recorded conversations with artists, carers, squatters, sex workers, housing activists, dementia-care specialists, death-care workers, and disabled abolitionists about reimagining the British care home, held during a workshop series at Gasworks in 2026 (funded by The City Bridge Foundation).

Elders, 2046 is a project by the artist Jaunts and Dr. Ravi Piccus of XYZ Projects. It was developed with artist-writer Maz Murray, model-maker Scar and ethnographic set-designer Public Dreaming, and was produced by Kamari Romeo. It features performers Krishna Istha, Chavala Saris Adam, Mijke van der Drift, Munesu Mukombe, Bri Leung and Ray Vincent Mills. It is an Unlimited UK Partner Award commission.

A filmed recording will be available to enjoy afterwards on Wellcome Collection’s YouTube channel.

BSL will be provided at the performances on Saturday 10th October only.

We’ll be in the Forum. To get there, take the lift or stairs up to level 1 and then follow the signs through the ‘Being Human’ gallery.

This event will have British Sign Language interpretation.

This event will be delivered in British Sign Language, with an English language voiceover.

This is a relaxed event. You are welcome to move freely around the space. You can leave and re-enter whenever you wish, and you can make noise at any time.
