Akademicki Teatr Remont, Silesian University of Technology
“Emigrants” is, next to the excellent “Tango”, the most famous drama of Sławomir.
Mrozka and also one of the most important works of Polish post-war literature.
This is a performance that premiered in our theater on March 27, 2014, and which still enjoys unwavering success with the audience.
The eponymous emigrants and at the same time the only persons in the drama are AA and XX.
They live together in a basement in a more undefined country of Western Europe.
The alienated intellectual AA chose to emigrate for political reasons, while XX, a worker, left solely for the sake of earning.
Condemned to their own company, they live among constant quarrels and conflicts, deepening mutual antagonisms. The heroes of Sławomir Mrozhek's “Emigrants” have no names.
Away from home, in the basement room that serves as an apartment, they come to spend New Year's Eve together, during which they recognize the misery of their own existence.
The pronunciation of Sławomir Mrozek's art, despite huge political and therefore social changes in Poland and Europe, is still relevant.
The accents have shifted, the political context has disappeared, but the existential and social will always exist.
The longing for liberation accompanies man constantly, because in each of us there is a desire to be happy.
