Emil de Waals Birthday Bash

Emil de Waal comes to Bremen Theatre with a bang of an anniversary celebration — one evening, three concerts with Gustaf Ljunggren/Emil de Waal, Emil de Waal Old News feat. Kaya Brüel and Kalaha.

Since the 1980s, drummer, composer and bandmaster Emil de Waal has made his mark on Danish music life in everything from jazz and experimental music to electronica, pop, rock, etc.

On January 6, 2027, he will turn 60 and at the same time celebrate his 40th anniversary as a musician. It will be marked with a bang by an anniversary celebration at the Bremen Theatre on 2 March.

Here you can look forward to three concerts in one evening as de Waal takes the stage with his three groups. Gustaf Ljunggren/Emil de Waal opens the party, followed by Emil de Waal Old News feat. Kaya Brüel, while the closing party is provided by Kalaha.

Emil de Waal broke through in 1987 with the fusion band Bagdad Dagblad. Since then, he has been part of the Danish Music Award- and Carl Prize-winning Kalaha, headed Emil de Waal+ and Emil de Waal Old News and created numerous musical projects — including the Danish Music Award-winning collaboration with clarinetist Elith “Nulle” Nykjær, as well as duos with multi-instrumentalist Gustaf Ljunggren and with Spejderrobot.

In 2023, he received the Ben Webster Prize for his long-standing and innovative efforts on the Danish music scene.
