What are we leaving behind for the next generations? A world full of opportunities or full of unresolved problems? Who inherits assets, who bears responsibility — and what does an equitable inheritance actually mean?
Inheritance is much more than what we take over from our parents or grandparents. We inherit assets and debts, cultural assets and traditions, natural resources, but also social inequalities, historical conflicts and the consequences of political decisions. What we own and pass on shapes our present and the future of future generations.
But how fairly is this inheritance distributed? Who owns cultural treasures and natural resources? Who benefits from prosperity — and who is excluded? And what responsibility do we have for what we leave behind?
The talks invite you to discuss these questions from different perspectives. Well-known voices from the fields of science, law, journalism and social engagement shed light on the connections between property, power and justice — in Germany, Europe and worldwide.
Don't just listen, join the discussion! Each course starts with an impulse and a pointed thesis. The audience is then invited to exchange perspectives and develop their own positions at discussion tables. Thoughts and results are finally brought back onto the stage and thought about together.
The series of events is being developed in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Athens and the “Heritage in Focus” project.
