About the event

Hamburger Bahnhof cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition “Sophie Calle. Is It Better? “one.

After more than 20 years, Sophie Calle returns to the capital for her first solo exhibition in Berlin. The exhibition reflects their long-standing ties to the city and presents “The Detachment” — the first series of works that Calle realized here in 1996, in the founding year of the Hamburger Bahnhof. The work addresses the dismantling of GDR monuments following German reunification. On the occasion of the museum's 30th anniversary, Calle has created a new work that deals with the former Palace of the Republic and the reconstructed Berlin Palace. Other works deal with the history of the museum as a train station or explore the act of seeing. With a range that includes photography, text, video and installation, the exhibition illustrates Calle's diverse use of various media.
