A Shot from the Heart: Forgotten Danish Films

The later dogma brother Kristian Levring, with his first feature film, delivered one of the rare Danish offerings to the genre of “postapocalypse in gravel pit”. His low-budget Western- and 'Mad Max'-inspired B-movie fell to the ground upon its premiere in 1986, but has cult potential as a picture-strong style exercise with atypical casting (keep an eye out for Sort Sol's Steen Jørgensen as the villain, among others).

In a depopulated, future Northern Europe — the Year of the Lord 1998! — a political prisoner escapes when his transport bus is subjected to an assassination. The only other survivor is a young conscript, who begins to doubt his mission while accompanying the prisoner through the dangerous wasteland.

The film has been released on VHS in several countries since 1986, but has never appeared on DVD or streaming. Lars H.U.G. wrote the song 'Love You Forever' for the film.
